LCD TVs Will Be Even Cheaper, as If You Needed Another Reason to Buy One

If you're one of those people who likes to wait until the price on technology comes down significantly before buying, your day is coming. Especially if you're looking for an LCD TV.
With the cost of oil affecting prices on just about everything from food to, well, gas for your car, it seems counterintuitive for the price of LCD screens to be heading the opposite direction.
But we're not complaining.
LCD makers over estimated the production of LCD sets for the 2nd quarter and now there is a huge surplus of large LCD panel TVs sitting in warehouses. With the holiday season looming just around the corner, these sets need to sell fast.
What's more, production prices have been dropping steadily. Samsung and Sony operate a LCD manufacturing facility which can make large LCD panels at a fraction of their original cost. Sharp, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Matsushita are following suit and increasing production.
And then there's the coming competition of OLED and FED TV technology that may eclipse LCD before too long. It's important for retailers to unload their LCD inventory before these new technologies gain a foothold in the market.
Put all this pressure together and it's obvious why LCD screens will be cheaper. You may have already witnessed price reductions on LCD units; you should expect to see more.
If you haven't got an LCD TV yet, this year just might be the year to get one.
