LG’s 19 inch LG30 model is a sleek, all-black performance TV. It features a high resolution of 1440x900 which doesn’t do much for regular TV viewing, but will certainly make anything you view from your computer look noticeably sharper.
The TV features an all black exterior with a matching pedestal base. The pedestal base however isn’t a swivel stand, although that may not be much of an issue with the smaller 19 inch screen size. There aren’t any noticeable buttons on the exterior of the set save for the lone power button housed at the lower right hand corner of the screen. The speakers are kept hidden from view and this also adds to the streamlined look of the TV.
• 1440 x 900 Resolution
• VGA PC Interface
• 5 ms Response Time
The LG 19LG30 features a higher than average for its class 1440 x 900 resolution. While this won’t do much for regular TV viewing, it will certainly make connecting it to a PC much more enjoyable. This will certainly have its advantages for those who want to use the TV as both a TV and a monitor. Of course the TV will have no trouble displaying standard and high definition content with its dual digital/analog tuners built in.
Connecting the TV to a PC is also made easy with the VGA connection. For those that desire a more digital approach to a connection, the TV also has an HDMI input which can accept HDMI and DVI connections alike.
Slow response time has been one of the biggest drawbacks to an LCD TV. It used to be that any sports fan looking to buy a new TV would stay away from LCD, simply because they weren’t up to the task of providing the clear images on moving subjects. Thankfully, technology has improved and the LG 19LG30 features a fast 5 ms response time. This helps keeps fast moving objects clear and focused.
The experts were impressed by the TV’s extensive set of picture controls which allows the user to really fine tune their picture. The color reproduction was also excellent. The black levels weren’t quite as good as some of its similar priced competitors and deep black levels tended to become blue.
Users liked the overall picture quality. The built in HD tuner was able to lock onto and display digital channels with relative ease. Some users did have issues with the sound. That is to be expected given the size of the speakers. Most consumers would recommend this set to friends.
The LG 19LG30 features impressive resolution for its size and an above average picture control feature. This TV would make a great TV for anyone looking for a computer monitor/TV in one package.
