Sharp Manufacturing Information
Sharp
Sharp Co. has been among the leaders of LCD television manufacturing, it has just had a lot of stiff competition coming from Samsung and Sony. Nevertheless, Sharp has made its mark on the TV market by pioneering many of the features in television that have become standards today. For example, in the early 1990s Sharp pioneered the first wall-hanging TV, a move that they called opening the door to big screen televisions.
With its many innovations and commitment to quality products, Sharp is a good name to have behind (well, on the front of actually) your TV.
Lines
Called the TV for the 21st century the Sharp Aquos line debuted in 2001. Since then the Aquos has received worldwide praise, many saying that the Aquos is second only to Sony in quality.
Sharp has touted its latest version of the Aquos line, the widescreen edition, as a TV with top of the line picture quality with a sleek new design. Uniting a dynamic contrast ratio of as much as 27,000:1 and a 120 Hz refresh rate gives the Aquos line picture quality that is among the best in the market.
History
They’ve got the official HDTV of MLB baseball, but we won’t hold that against them. Sharp has led the way in a lot of different technologies and we have them to thank for many of the “firsts” in electronics we find standard now.
For example, Sharp had the first Japan-made television in 1953. They also, in 1991, released the world’s first wall-hanging TV. The Japan-based Sharp’s beginning started with the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil in 1915—you guessed it, the world’s first. Growing from pencils to radios and more, Sharp became a full-range electronics manufacturer in 1959 and started mass producing color TVs shortly afterward.
Add on a couple more firsts for Sharp, like the first electronic calculator, and even the first ever camera phone, and you can see that Sharp has a pretty broad resume in the electronics industry. The electronic calculator gave Sharp the opportunity to get involved in LCD technology to the point that they began calling themselves “the LCD specialists”. It wasn’t long after that they began using the LCD technology on their TVs in the late ‘80s, the first line was called Crystaltron.
In 1999 there was a growing demand for LCD televisions. Sharp answered the call producing 20” LCD televisions. From there they continued to expand their LCD market and technology until the latest Sharp Aquos line hit the market.
Service and support
In a summary of customer reviews from across the internet, Sharp products have gotten high reviews from users. Many thought it was a great TV for gamers and nearly all enjoyed the picture quality of Sharp’s Aquos.
Sharp has also recently pleased the business and consumer world by expanding their customer service to include more “in-home” customer service for all their products. Unlike some of the other major TV manufacturers, Sharp does not include a live chat as part of their customer service. However, they do have service centers across the country. You just need to type in your zip code and you can get connected with those nearest your home. Phone numbers are provided so you can call and ask questions or set up an appointment. Sharp upholds the industry-standard one-year warranty with their TVs, so if anything goes wrong, that first year would be a good time to get it fixed.
Summary
Despite the stiff competition from Sony and Samsung, Sharp has held on to the No. 3 TV manufacturer spot by continuing to produce quality TVs that have the latest in picture quality and design. Quality and innovation has been Sharp’s track record since it was founded, and we can expect to see more strides in the consumer electronics field from their innovations.
