Sony recently debuted its latest TV at
NEC's Grand Design show, and it was quite a lot less than what Sony normally offers. That's because this new TV is the world's thinnest LCD TV.
The new Sony Bravia ZX1 is a
mere 9.9 mm thick; that's less than half an inch. Sony already lays claim to the world's thinnest production TV, the 3mm thick
X-LED.
As if being the thinnest TV wasn't cool enough, this new TV also features what Sony calls "Bravia 1080 Wireless", meaning the TV has a separate box where you connect all your gear. This allows the TV to maintain as streamlined a look as possible. Media boxes are nothing new, although to this reviewer's knowledge, no one has ever made a wireless one, until now.
Of course this TV has all the other cool features one would expect from such a high end TV including faster frame rates and LED backlighting. But we just can't get over the slim profile, regardless of the spec sheet.
And now for the bad news: this model will
only be available in Europe for now. I guess we here in the states aren't ready for such cool tech yet. Rumor has it that we will get a wired version. So we are just left to wonder why. At least we can hang a thin TV on our wall, even though we will have to string a bunch of cables up to it. Yeah, life is hard, I know.
