Panasonic Shows Off the 150 Inch Plasma TV, Now with 3D Blu-Ray Player
Panasonic has upped the ante once again in the plasma world. At the CEATEC show they displayed a 150 inch 3D plasma display, which they claim is the world's largest. And who is to say that it isn't? It's certainly the largest that any of us have ever seen. This isn't the first time Panasonic has displayed a 150 inch plasma display. Back in January at CES, they showed off a similar set that was of the old fashioned 2D variety. How outdated. The coolness doesn't end with the size of the screen though. In addition to being the largest plasma panel, it is also 3D. The real magic though appears to be happening in their prototype Blu-Ray disc player. This player, with its special coded discs, contains two sets of full 1080p images. When paired with the special active shutter glasses it produces a 3D effect that rivals the quality of the original Hollywood master.
Panasonic plans to start production of this 150 inch behemoth in May 2009, although it will be sold to professional and commercial markets before it's available to wealthy snobs like me. Even though Panasonic hasn't announced a price yet, I am quite sure that it would take me 2 lifetimes to save enough cash to actually own one. One can dream though, right?
As for the 3D Blu-Ray player, Panasonic has no plans to produce this now, at least not until the standards for 3D have been finalized. I guess the only way we are going to see this now is in our dreams, unless you're lucky enough to go to CES 2009.
