Plasma TV Sales Make a Comeback While LCD Sales Hold Steady

It seems that LCD HDTVs haven’t completely swamped the market according to sales results from the second quarter of 2009. In fact, plasma TV sales jumped up 40% (for the 42-inch to 50-inch TVs), mostly due to the considerable drop in prices over the last year. LCD enthusiasts (if there are any) shouldn’t fear though; LCD TV sales remained steady throughout the quarter.
Vizio continues to hold the number 1 spot among LCD manufacturers, again due to their cheaper prices compared to competitors. Vizio, Samsung, Toshiba and Panasonic all increased their market share while Sony lost market share. Overall these numbers are encouraging for both consumers and manufacturers in this economic downturn. Sure people are turning to cheaper TVs, but at least they’re still buying, right?
