The HDTV Throwdown: Which TV Reigns Supreme?

HD Guru recently took 125 of the
hottest HDTVs and pitted them against each other in a no-holds-barred competition. With all the talk of LCD vs. plasma TVs, 1080p, 120 Hz, and any number of special acronyms, how is one to know which TV is the best? We might be that much closer to actually knowing.
Recently we blogged about
LCD finally beating a plasma in terms of contrast ratio. It was a small victory that LCDs were happy to put under their belt. Now according to
these results, LCD TVs have something else to be proud of. Of the 125 TVs tested, only one was able to actually show 1080 lines of resolution on something other than a static image. No it's not the Pioneer Elite (although they came in second). Believe it or not, it was the Samsung LN-46A950. That's right, and LCD bested what is commonly known as the best TV on the market. The
famous XBR6 could display 1080 lines on a static image, but once it starts moving, that number drops, a bunch. All the way to 320! That's a far cry from the 1080 the
Samsung was able to produce. This is surprising since Samsung and Sony share the same panels. Apparently Samsung got the cream of the crop when it came to panels.
Just like Blu-Ray beat out HD DVD, it seems this might be another nail in plasma's coffin. RIP plasma and HDDVD. Whatever the case, the new crop of LCD TVs are better than they have ever been, and are worth looking at if you're in the market for that new flat panel.
We've got plenty of
