Following Sony’s introduction of a pair of XBR 10 LED TVs last week at CEDIA, all of the major TV manufacturers have joined the LED TV bandwagon. LED TVs have caught consumers’ attention and even opened wallets in tight economic times. Given the fact LED TVs often cost twice as much as their LED counterparts, sales have surprised industry analysts.

LG forecasts that the global LED-backlit LCD TV market will grow from 3.1 million units in 2009 (2.6% of the total LCD TV market) to 30 million in 2010 (20% of the market) and to 68 million by 2011 (40% of the market). What is it that makes LED TVs so appealing to consumers?

TopTenREVIEWS released a new consumer electronics site to educate shoppers about LED TVs. Reviewer Brian Thomas says, “LED TVs will change the way you think about TVs. LED TVs are slimmer, brighter, and more detailed than traditional LCD TV. Yes, an LED TV is actually an LCD TV with LED backlighting, but it is this technology that allows LED TVs to be significantly slimmer and more responsive.”

LED TVs offer a brighter picture while at the same time being able to produce a better contrast ratio. The result is a TV that is slimmer with a picture that is brighter and darker at the same time. Clusters of LED lights can be dimmed for an incredibly responsive display. Everything that you watch on an LED TV will look better than your old TV. From video games to chick flicks, you will see detail that you have been missing before you got your LED TV.

Compare today’s top LED TVs http://tv.toptenreviews.com/led-tv/ in our easy to read, side-by-side matrix. For consistency, 55” models were reviewed across the board. The top rated LED TV by Samsung has a 240hz refresh rate and most important, local dimming which allows the LED TV to achieve the deeper blacks formerly found only in plasma TVs. This Samsung takes advantage of the LED technology, producing a set that’s just over an inch thick. If you’re planning to mount your TV to the wall, this is an excellent choice.
