Sharp has been making LCD TVs for years. In fact they are credited with getting the technology to where it is today. The Sharp LC52LE700UN is the latest offering and is the first TV from Sharp to use LED backlighting technology.
The Sharp LC52LE700UN is pretty straight forward in terms of its design. The bezel is black and warps around the 52 inch screen with the thickest part at the base of the screen. This is also where the Sharp logo is placed and a small array of LED lights in the lower right hand corner. The screen is supported by a matching pedestal base but does not swivel.
Standout Features
• 120 Hz Refresh Rate
• LED Backlight
• 4 ms Response Time
Increasing the refresh rate to 120 Hz from 60 Hz reduces motion blur while watching events like sports or action movies. Having a faster response time keeps objects focused and detailed. This is good news for just about anyone from the avid gamer to the avid sports fanatic. It would be nice to have 240 Hz on this model however, how much one can benefit from 240 Hz is debatable.
LED backlight technology is one of the latest improvements to LCD TVs. LED lighting allows the TV to produce brighter whites and also more detailed darks. It also consumes less energy which is good news for everyone that wants to go green.
Another way to reduce motion blur is to increase the screen response time. 4ms is about as fast as we have seen any LCD TV. This enables the TV, along with 120 Hz refresh rates, to produce images that stay sharp.
The Sharp LC52LE700UN is a solid TV with a good picture, but some key features are missing that are found on competitively priced sets.
