What is the Difference between SDTV, EDTV and HDTV?
If you are confused about all the acronyms you see related to televisions, here are some short definitions of common terms, related in order from good to best.
GOOD - SDTV
SDTV is Standard Definition TV and it delivers a type of resolution that is considered to meet ‘standards’ but is not considered high definition. This kind of quality is what you are familiar with in regular DVDs.
BETTER - EDTV
EDTV or Enhanced Definition TV or Extended Definition TV is considered better than broadcasted television, but not as good as High-Definition.
BEST - HDTV
HDTV stands for High-Definition Television and is a type of digital television; it has twice the linear resolution as SDTV. You will see this kind of quality in HD DVDs, Blu-ray discs and HDV.
