California May Pass New Energy Standards for All TVs
California gets closer to implementing tough new energy standards for all TVs sold in the state.
The California Energy Commission unveiled the new standards today, which will be followed by a 45-day public comment period. The commission is expected to approve the measure in early November.
The rules, which took more than a year to develop, are designed to shave $8.1 billion off Californians' electricity bills over a 10-year-period. That works out to $30 per set per year, according to commission officials.
Television viewing is at an all-time high across the country, estimated at eight hours a day. Realize this is the sum of viewing multiple TVs in one household, not a measurement for...
Finally, a Green Laser
It’s about time! A Japanese company by the name of Sumitomo Industries has developed the world’s first pure green laser. At last all those red and blue lasers will have some company.
What this really means though is that our portable electronics such as projectors and TVs can use this new tech to improve dramatically. Without going into too much detail, you need green to produce a moving picture. Since we didn’t have green lasers before, we couldn’t rely soley on lasers, until now.
Sumitomo is now in talks with various other manufacturers to get this into some real products that you and I can actually buy.
So I guess it won’t be too long now until we see...

LG to Sell 15-inch OLED TV in December
Move over Sony, it looks like LG's 15 inch OLED is now that much closer to dethroning you from the world's biggest (and only) production OLED TV. The new 15 inch model beats Sony's XEL-1 by a whopping 4 inches (actually 4 inches is a lot, when we're talking sizes this small). It looks like the new TV will be available in December. We don't know any of the specs from the new TV although you can be assured that they will be similar to Sony's XEL-1 with a stunning contrast ratio and super long life spans. You can also sleep well knowing that the new model will also be razor thin. Start saving your pennies now cause I'm sure this TV won't be cheap.Check out the latest TVs and reviews at...
JVC Unveils Worlds Thinnest TV … Or Not
You've probably seen the videos out there somewhere that show how impossibly thin an OLED screen can be. If you haven't check out our clip from PMA of OLED thinness; from the side it almost disappears. But I'm off topic. OLED is the definition of thin and would laugh at LCD's attempts to shed a centimeter or two ... until now. Samsung's 8.9 mm OLED was the king of thin, but JVC just trumped that record and drove Samsung into the dust with a 6.4 mm thick LCD SCREEN. Yeah pretty impressive ... but wait, there is a catch.Sure they can technically say the GD-32X1 is 6.4 mm because it is ... at its thinnest point. The screen is only 6.4 mm, but they've bundled all the important stuff like...
