Epson creates some of the world’s highest quality LCD projector TVs and other electronics, and the company has been doing so for more than 100 years. The Epson Home Cinema 8350 is one of the many projectors that is ideal for home cinema use because of its outstanding video quality and stunning picture uniformity. As with any display device, the most important things to look for are the contrast ratio, brightness level and whether it’s able to produce 1080p quality pictures in any setting. Epson understands the need for quality; the Epson Home Cinema 8350 LCD projector TV has a contrast ratio of 50,000:1, which is perfect for displaying those deep darks and brilliant whites. The high-end aspects of this projector and overall quality are what made it stand out against the crowd and made it easy for us to give it our TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award. Epson has made a projector that displays amazing images.
The Epson Home Cinema 8350 is one of the largest projectors we reviewed, weighing in at just over 16 pounds and having a width of over 17 inches. It's quite a large projector compared to the competition. The large size is not really a bad thing, however; this projector is for a home theater room, which means once it is in place, it will be there for good. The large size also helps for cooling purposes and aids in noise reduction. We found the noise level to be so quiet, even in normal mode, that even in dead silence you almost cannot tell it is on. This is going to be ideal for those who are not using a large sound system in their theater room or simply for those who don’t want to deal with any additional distractions.
A 200 watt lamp is used to provide the crystal clear picture you will experience. There are stronger lamps out there, but they will burn out much faster and will run much hotter. Having a bulb that does not burn out quite so fast is a plus since the bulbs on these machines run anywhere from $300 up to about $600. The average lamp life for the Epson Home Cinema 8350 is right around 4,000 hours. One thing we were very pleased to see what the fact that the power consumption for this LCD projector TV was so low. Running at only 200 watts, this machine is perfect for those who are looking to get a new projector but are also thinking green.
One thing that was quite interesting about this projector is that most of the adjustments are done with the remote control. There are no actual controls located on the top of the machine other than the lens shift and power button, which is quite uncommon for most projectors. You will find that there is a large center on the backside of the projector and another on the front which makes adjusting the settings easy from any seat in the house. We were able to get a crisp clear picture after making just a few minor adjustments, and we found everything to be very simple an easy to use.
The display settings and features are where the Epson Home Cinema 8350 LCD projector TV stands out against the crowd. The Epson Home Cinema 8350 has a native resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). This 3LCD projector is designed to give you a crystal-clear picture every time. We were very pleased to see that the color fidelity on this projector was spot on. Epson has also included a cinema filter, which broadens the color gamut to match the standards of color set by large studios. The lens used in this projector is an Opti-Cinema lens, which offers optimal clarity and uniformity no matter what you choose to use this projector for. Become immersed into the latest HD games on the market or make that hard to define call in the latest game before it ever gets reviewed.
The amazing 1080p 3LCD technology uses a 50,000:1 contrast ratio for incredibly dark blacks and brilliant whites. Most LCD projector TVs on the market have a contrast ratio of about 5,000:1, which simply wouldn’t cut it for the Epson Home Cinema 8350. We were more than pleased with the overall image quality; we found that dark and light colors did not blend and that the image was extremely crisp and clear.
Another very important factor you will want to pay close attention to is the brightness level the LCD projector TV is able to produce. The Epson Home Cinema 8350 has a 2,000 ANSI lumens output which means you are going to experience a real life look and feel from your movies and games in a home theater setting. If you plan to use this projector in a room with a lot of ambient light, keep in mind that the viewing experience will not be quite as good. The ideal situation for any home theater projector is to mount it in a room that is able to get incredibly dark so you feel like you’re at the movies.
Many projectors on the market use a system called keystone correction which auto adjusts your projected image so that doesn’t look distorted. The Epson Home Cinema 8350, on the other hand, has two different controls located on top of the projector which allow you to adjust the lens shift. This ensures that you will have a normal looking-image no matter where you mount or place your LCD projector TV. We enjoyed the amount of control over what the projected image looks like, but would have liked to have seen an auto adjust, or at least the ability to adjust the image from the remote.
The Epson 8350 has all of your basic connection needs laid out and labeled, so anyone can get things connected and ready to go. We were very pleased to see two HDMI ports for extreme flexibility in what types of HD devices you want to use. Along with the HDMI slots, you will also find your basic composite and component ports and, of course, a PC connector. The variety of ports on this LCD projector TV makes it possible to watch movies, view slideshows on your computer and even play games without ever swapping cables.
This is the one area that we feel Epson could improve on quite a bit. The reason for this is the fact that during the time we reviewed their product, the Contact Us section of their site was not working. We did find all of the basics covered for getting quality support once we found the phone number and email address. You are also able to download the user manual for the projector, and there is a large FAQs section, which is always a huge plus. Overall, we were disappointed to see the support section down on their site, but they are able to answer most questions through their FAQs page.
Epson has been around the block a time or two and have proven that they know what they are doing. The Epson Home Cinema 8350 is a perfect example of a quality product that will work wonders. We were very pleased to see high-end parts and features used to make this product stand out against the crowd. If you are looking for a very well-built LCD projector that is capable of producing crystal-clear pictures, the Epson Home Cinema 8350 is by far the best on the market.
