The VPL-VW50 by Sony is their entry-level 1080p projector and a sibling of the almighty VPL-VW100. Bearing a glossy white and dark grey color-scheme, the VPL-VW50 is a very stylish and attractive piece of hardware. All of its inputs are located on one side of the chassis for convenient wiring and to help keep wires tucked and tidy. The included remote is small and basic, but provides the essential functions needed to operate your projector comfortably from your seat.As far as performance and features go, a dynamic iris makes for up to a 15,000:1 contrast ratio while its native 1920 x 1080 resolution provides a crystal clear image from all media types. The VW50 includes 2 HDMI inputs, which is uncommon in today’s projectors and allows for multiple incoming HD signals. Its brightness level is measured at 900 Lumens and is enough to provide a bright and colorful picture in even well-lit areas.Experts who reviewed this product were extremely pleased with the VW50’s image quality, black levels and sharpness, but disappointed with its primary color accuracy. No amount of tweaking could correct some of the primary color accuracies, making some colorful scenes appear slightly washed out. However, skin tones and lighting hues remained accurate and did not distract from an overall pleasant viewing experience. The value of this projector is rated high and performs equal to or better than many others in its price range. If sharpness and image quality are more important that color accuracy, you’ll find a bargain with the Sony VPL-VW50 projector.
