Why Buy a Standard CRT TV?

Standard CRT TVs are less expensive than modern flat panel TVs. They use tube technology that has been around for more than half a century. They are the same TVs that your grandfather and father had, and you probably have now.

Standard CRT TVs are great for busy professionals that aren’t around often enough to enjoy an expensive, high-end television, people that happen to like catching the news in the morning and their favorite television drama at night and children with TVs in their rooms.

There is nothing particularly special about these types of TVs. They come in screen sizes from 13 to 32 inches, no high resolution, no broken pixels, and rarely do they include advanced HD technology, just plain old picture. However, they have proven to be reliable and dependable pieces of technology. How many can say that about their MP3 player, cell phone, laptop or other piece of digital equipment?

In this site, you’ll find articles related to televisions, as well as comprehensive reviews and a side-by-side comparison to help you make an informed decision on which standard TV is right for your. At TopTenREVIEWS – We do the research so you don’t have to.

What to Look for in a Standard CRT Television?

Standard CRT televisions aren’t fancy TVs. They opt for function rather than form. Standard TVs are typically large and bulky; however, they are considerably cheaper than their LCD and plasma counterparts, making standard CRT televisions attractive to those on a budget.

Soon CRT technology will be a thing of the past. To keep your new standard TV from fading into the dust too quickly, look for these features:

  • HDTV: HDTV is all the rave. Soon all stations will broadcast a digital signal and High Definition is expected to be the norm, if not the standard. To ensure your standard CRT television can receive the best picture possible, look for one with a 720p or 1080i display format.
  • Digital Tuner: A tuner is the component of the television that can receive the station’s signal, usually through an antenna or some kind of cable. In February 2009, analog waves will no longer be sent through the air. This means televisions with just an analog tuner will not be able to receive a picture with an antenna. When shopping for a new CRT TV, make sure it has a digital tuner or digital receiver, usually displayed as ATSC or QAM. This way the TV can catch and interpret the digital signal sent by the stations.
  • Aspect Ratio: It’s common for flat panel televisions to have a widescreen aspect ratio. This is the optimal format for watching movies. With more television programs and movies formatted for widescreen, it may be prudent to think about getting a standard CRT television with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
