So you're looking at the brand
new computer you got, with a built-in TV tuner, and thinking, "Great, now I can watch
Golden Girls reruns in the privacy of my closet without my kids discovering my affinity for plucky old ladies." But then reality strikes. "NOOOO, I'm still at work when the mid-day reruns come on. What will I do?" you scream in frustration, shaking your fist at the sky.
Never fear, oh lover of all things silver-haired, Nero has come up with a solution. Remember that magical device on your TV that allowed you to record a few football games so that you would have evidence of your masculinity if ever someone found your stash of scrapbooking magazines? It's called TiVo, and it's now available on your PC.
Nero just announced a package for your computer that includes a TV tuner card, TiVo remote, portable antenna, TiVo software and a year long subscription to the TiVo service for $199. If you already have a TV tuner card in your computer you can simply opt for the software and subscription alone for $99.
There's no word on getting deals if you already own a TiVo set for your
TV, and somehow paying for TiVo on your computer feels weird. Plus, it's a computer, meaning that there are probably half a dozen good programs out there that can perform a decent screen capture of TV content displayed on your computer. Or you can try the myriad of
free Internet TV sites to find your favorite shows and watch them at your leisure.
But don't let work or anything else stop you from getting your fill of Golden Girls. And on your own schedule too. Network schedules can go bite their thumbs for all I care, as long as I get my dose...I mean, as long as you get your dose of Golden Girls.
We've got plenty of
computer reviews if you're looking for a good TiVo-worthy PC. Or you might want to keep cruising these other blogs with minimal amounts of Golden Girl references:
